Global Warming

Global Warming reference to the change in surface temperature of the Earth, which results in climatic change. This has been happening ever since man started interfering with environment. Human wants have been increasing with the increase in population exploitation of the environment continues to be a major threat. Large-scale development of industries and transport have contributed to pollution. The largest human influence has been the emission of green house gases such as CO2, methane, nitrous oxide, etc, through major industrialization, CO2 being the main couse of depleting Ozone layer. The global surface temperature is likely to raise from 2.6 to 4.8°C, which will differ from region to region. The adverse effects of global warming are: 1) Raise in sea levels due to rapid melting of ice(glaciers). 2) Change in rainfall pattern 3) Expansion of deserts 4) Extreme weather conditions like heat waves, droughts, heavy rainfall with floods and heavy snowfall. 5) Exti

Progress in Public Health

Progress in Public Health has been quite challenging, owing to terrible disasters.... both natural and those initiated by man. The loss to life and property has been tremendous. Ex- Bombing at a graduation ceremony at a Medical College, in Mogadishu has been ranked as the most devastating loss of human life in recent history. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, famines, floods, landslides, etc, have also led to serious destruction to life and property.* The problems that generally arise after a disaster lead to diseases associated with poor water supply and sanitation. At times health centres too are damaged and erratic delivery of medicines and care lead to further problems. The W.H.O. in the past and present facade has made immense progress in the nature of dealing with emergencies in public health during disasters. They aim at: 1) Assessing the nature and magnitude of the disaster 2) To treat the injured 3) To recover bodies 4) To set-up surveillance for infectious diseases 5) Pr
